Abstract
Sarah Kane changed the British theatrical scene of the nineties through her dramatic world full of violence and abuse. First reactions to her work were disapproving, as the critics and the audience failed to understand what the plays were really about. She was also established as the central face of the in-yer-face theatre. Kane, in her plays, gives a full representation of violence and especially sexual violence, which was her most prominent violent element. She represented the issues of rape and sexual abuse and through them indicated serious issues of reality. The main issue the act of rape introduces is the problem of gender inequality. In Blasted and Phaedra`s Love, she is concerned with the problem of men and women being in different positions of power, and examines the use of sex as a form of punishment. Rape is presented as an indicator of a gender issue, but she also adds to its social, cultural and political factors.
Abstract (croatian)
Sarah Kane je promijenila britansku kazališnu scenu devedesetih svojim dramskim svijetom punim nasilja i zlostavljanja. Prve reakcije na njen rad su bile neodobravajuće, budući da kritičari i publika nisu uspjeli shvatiti o čemu su se drame zapravo radile. Ona je također postavljena kao vodeća figura in-yer-face kazališta. Kane u svojim dramama pruža potpuni prikaz nasilja te posebice seksualnog nasilja, koje je bilo njen najučestaliji nasilni element. Ona je prikazala predmete silovanja i seksualnog zlostavljanja i pomoću njih ukazala na ozbiljne probleme u stvarnom životu. Glavni problem kojeg čin silovanja donosi je problem nejednakosti spolova. U Blasted i Phaedra`s Love ona se bavi problemom raspodjele moći među spolovima te istražuje uporabu seksa kao oblika kažnjavanja. Silovanje je prikazano kao pokazatelj rodnog pitanja, ali je ona proširila i njegove društvene, kulturološke i političke faktore
