Ovaj rad se bavi konceptom „civilne religije“ u kontekstu američkog društva. Amerika se kroz povijest služila civilnom religijom kako bi izgradila američki identitet. Naime, neki vjerski elementi su se isprepleli u ranom razvoju američkih društvenih institucija. Korelacija izmeĎu politike i religije može se i danas prepoznati u američkom političkom životu. Podrijetlo koncepta „civilne religije“ pronalazimo u misli Jean-Jacques Rousseaua, a njezinu američku inačicu prepoznao je i razradio... More suvremeni teoretičar Robert N. Bellah. S obzirom na to da američka civilna religija nikad nije bila posve sekularna uspješno se razvila i održala bez sukoba s crkvenim simbolima koje je prilagodila potrebama države, a zatim usmjerila ka postizanju nacionalnih ciljeva. Civilna religija u tom smislu, u formalnom govoru i javnom životu ima samo ceremonijalno značenje. Gotovo da američki predsjednik mora spomenuti Boga, u suprotnome riskira gubitak glasova. Ova javna religijska dimenzija izražena je u skupu uvjerenja, simbola i rituala koje nazivamo američka civilna religija. Kritičari prepoznaju koliko je civilna religija duboko ukorijenjena u američko društvo. Sustav javnog školstva usko je povezan s nacionalnim kultom i snažna je potpora službenom ceremonijalu. Suvremena civilna religija služi kao sredstvo pojednostavljenog legitimiranja raznoraznih američkih političkih „akcija“ i prikrivanja bolnih točaka američkog društva. Less
Abstract (english)
This paper deals with the concept of "civil religion" in the context of American society. Throughout history, America has been using civil religion to build American identity. Certain religious elements are intertwined in the early development of American social institutions. Correlation between politics and religion can still be recognized today in American political life. The origin of the concept of "civil religion" can be found in the thoughts of Jean Jacques Rousseau, and its... More American version was recognized and elaborated by contemporary theoretician Robert N. Bellah. Since American civil religion has never been secular, it has successfully developed and maintained without a conflict with church symbols which were customized to the needs of the state and then oriented toward achieving national goals. Civil religion in this regard, in formal speech and in public life, has only a ceremonial meaning. It‟s almost like American president must mention God, the opposite is the risk of losing votes. This public religious dimension is expressed in the set of beliefs, symbols and rituals we call American civil religion. Critics recognize how civil religion is deeply rooted in American society. The system of public education is closely related to the national cult and strong support to the official ceremonial. Contemporary civil religion serves as a means of simplified legitimation of various American political “actions” and to dissemble the troubled areas of American society. Less
