INTRODUCTION: Measles are acute, highly contagious viral disease characterized by fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and erythematous maculopapular rash that appears from the third to the seventh day of the disease. The cause of measles is an RNA virus of the Paramyxoviridae, a source of infection was exclusively human. Measles is transmitted via droplets, the incubation of the disease in measles is an average of 10 days. Sensitivity to cause measles is high and the universal and life-long immunity. Vaccination is carried out Mo-Pa-Ru vaccine. The most common complications are secondary bacterial infection or uncontrolled spread of viral infection. Death with measles is rare and usually the result of severe complications of measles. Serious adverse reactions to vaccines are very rare. Treatment is symptomatic OBJECTIVE: Show the number of measles cases in the Croatian territory during the period from 1996 to 2015, and show the number of measles cases in Zadar county in the period from 1999 to 2015. DISCUSSION/ REVIEW: Since in Croatia carried out mandatory immunization of 1968, the number of measles cases has dropped substantially. Thanks to the high vaccination coverage, in the last decade, there were less than ten reports of measles annually. The increase compared to the usual number of patients took place over two small outbreaks of measles, 2003/2004 year with about 70 patients and in the spring of 2008 with about 50 patients. However, the decline in vaccination in the Republic of Croatia, the disease returns. From December 2014 to June 2015, in Croatia's last measles epidemic with 222 patients. In Zadar county in the period from 1999 to 2015 a total of 7 of measles as an indicator of high vaccination coverage in our area. CONCLUSION: Measles virus is highly contagious and is vaccination the most important preventive measures to be carried out in Croatia Mo-Pa-Ru vaccine. The minimum vaccination should be greater than 95% because the maintenance of high rates of vaccination most successfully prevents the spread of disease in the population. Parents should immunize their children, despite the possible side effects that are very mild and transient if occur because the benefits of vaccination are much higher than from the effects of the disease. Vaccination protect themselves or other persons from a medically justified reason not to vaccinate.
