Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Ivan Raos published an autobiographical trilogy entitled ‘’An Eternal Sorrowful Laughter’’ in 1965. The trilogy includes Raos’s childhood in Medov Dolac, his boyhood spent in a seminary and his adolescence in the Split ghetto. Moreover, a combination of realistic and modernist elements contribute to making the autobiographical trilogymore interesting. The trilogy follows the development of the main character, namely Ivan Raos, who is considered as a picaro in the literature. All in all, throughout the interpretation of ‘’An Eternal Sorrowful Laughter’’ a more apt social image of the region of Imotski and its customs, patriarchal lifestyle, oral folk literature and a children’s way of understanding is described.
