Diploma thesis deals with the historical analysis of emigration from the Kingdom of Dalmatia in the period from 1860 to 1918. In that historical analysis is research of social and economic conditions at that time that could be the best possible to determine the reasons why in this period moved more than 100 000 residents in overseas countries to North America, South America and in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The exact number of emigrants cannot be determined because the data in the literature vary widely among other things that there was no emigration policy within the Austro - Hungarian administration that led to an accurate record of the number of emigrants. On the other hand, numerous authors suggest that a large part of the people from Dalmatia deported illegally. Enough of thesis is devoted to the economy of Dalmatia and wine clause, the collapse of the shipbuilding and phylloxera, which marked the beginning of the nineties of the nineteenth century. Just wine clause numerous authors consider crucial factor that has caused the large population that Dalmatia is trying to meet their basic needs in looking for work in overseas countries. In this thesis one of the most important topics is the policy of Austro - Hungarian Kingdom towards migrations from Kingdom of Dalmatia in certain period all towards the beginning of the First World War. Through the War migration was officially banned. The work contains a lot of demographic data to better argued mass emigration as a social phenomenon that is not only affecting the area of today's Croatian during this period, but also throughout Europe and called in the historiography the period of Great Migrations (1820-1930).
