Abstract
Frazemi čine značajan dio, ne samo jezičnog sustava, već i vlastitog znanja. Razumijevanje i korištenje frazema može se činiti kao govorenje novog, kreativnog, zabavnog, i, mnogima, nepoznatog jezika. Ovaj diplomski rad, koji kombinira dva česta tipa frazema, nastoji pružiti manju komparativnu analizu hrvatskih i engleskih zoosomatskih frazeoloških jedinica. Rječnik hrvatskih animalističkih frazema (2017) izvor je hrvatskih idioma, dok će se njihovi odgovarajući engleski ekvivalenti tražiti u različitim tiskanim i online rječnicima. Cilj ovog rada je, kroz komparativnu analizu, odrediti stupanj ekvivalentnosti među 57 hrvatskih frazema i njihovih parova, kao i dotaknuti se bilo kakvih semantičkih ili sintaktičkih karakteristika. Konačno, osim ekvivalentnosti, rezultati će pokušati otkriti najčešću zoosomatsku komponentu, kao i osvrnuti se na određene konotacije vezane uz frazeme.
Abstract (english)
Phrasemes are a major part of, not just a language system, but also of one’s own knowledge. Understanding and implementing idioms may seem as speaking another, creative, entertaining and, for many, unfamiliar language. This thesis, that combines two most frequent idiom types, tends to provide a smaller comparative analysis of Croatian and English zoosomatic PUs. Rječnik hrvatskih animalističkih frazema (2017) is used as the source of Croatian idioms, while their English equivalents are to be found in different printed and online dictionaries. The aim of this thesis is to, through comparative analysis, determine the degree of equivalence between 57 Croatian idioms and their pairs, and also discuss any semantic or syntactic features present. Finally, except for the equivalence, the results will try to determine the most employed zoosomatic component, as well as reflect on the type of connotations provoked by the PUs.
