Abstract (english) | Public sculpture is a sculpture placed in open public spaces, and, as a rule, it serves to communicate with the public and as a contribution to the visual identity of a city or community. Public sculpture is a significant part of public art and is most often made of marble, bronze or stone, and can be placed on a pedestal. There are no clear rules about what a sculpture should represent or how it should look. The key characteristics of public sculpture are its accessibility, interactivity, aesthetic contribution and thematic significance. Most people know the names of parks, beaches and other public spaces because they are places of great events, but very few people know the names of monuments, statues and other architectural works. This graduation thesis is dedicated to public sculpture, and that related to the Maksimir district of Zagreb. The theoretical part of the work explores public sculpture, its historical development and its meaning for users of public space. Special consideration is given to the relationship between public sculpture and children, and special attention is paid to the public sculpture of the Maksimir city quarter located in three of its parts: Maksimir, Svetica and Dotršćina. Finally, five of her sculptures are analyzed that can be visited on foot with preschool children (Touch, Discus Thrower, Mother with Child, Mound (Falcon) and Steps). Each sculpture encourages creative thinking or physical activity in children. The practical part of the work refers to the presentation of the research related to the creation of a guide for educators and parents through selected Maximir sculptures, which was designed in a way that is suitable for children. The methodological framework of the research is based in the theoretical part on the research of the topic based on the available literature, while in the practical part of the research it refers to the design of the guide, its implementation and the researcher's reflection on the implemented process and final results |
