Abstract
Arheološki ostatci virovitičkog kraja te pojedini spomenici arhitekture Virovitice: dvorac Pejačević, palača Pejačević, crkva sv. Roka i dr. čine njenu kulturnu, povijesnu i nadasve arheološku važnost.

Archaeological remains and certain monuments of architecture in Virovitica: Pejačević Castle, Pejačević Palace, Church of st. Rok etc., are main part od cultural, historical and archaeological heritage. Virovitica has been inhabited since prehistory. During antiquity it was situated on an important road Poetovio – Mursa. The most of the archaeological sites in Virovitica and its county are dated to Middle Ages. Medieval lowland fortress is the most significant archaeological site in Virovitica and it is situated in the centre of the city. Also it is the place with the most archaeological excavation in Virovitica until this day. Findings from Virovitica fortress tell us about the way of life of the people during the late medieval and postmedieval times. There are different types of pottery among the small archaeological finds from Virovitica most of which are dated to postmedieval period, and only small amount belong to late medieval period. Except pottery, there are many finds of turkish pipes, stove tiles, glass, metal, bone artefacts and stone from Virovitica which are dated to 15th – 19./20th century.
