Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
It is generally recognized that by changing society we are changing family as well. Studying the historical overview of the development of family, there can be noticed a passage from multigenerational, partiarhal family to nuclear family. Family and family values are closely related to religion, i.e. more religious persons have always put family on higher position. The aim of this research was to enquire into the attitudes towards family and religiosity of young catholics and muslims in order to determine the similarities and differences among them. The study was conducted on a sample of 160 students of undergraduate and graduate study (80 students of the University of Zadar and 80 students of the University of Travnik). For the purposes of the research was made a questionnaire consisting of two parts (general type questions and 66 statements which examine attitudes about religiosity, family and patriarchal concept). Some scales from earlier researches: "The religious changes and values in Croatia" (Skledar et al., 2000), "Questionnaire on the dimensions of religiosity and its impact on daily life" (Coric, 2003) were used along with selfdesigned allegations. The research showed that more religious students have more patriarchal attittudes and family is of greater importance for them. In regard to catholics, young muslims give family bigger importance, are more religious and have highly expressed partiarchal attitudes (considering the religion of their parents). The effect of maternal education on assessment of attitudes towards family and religiosity proved to be significant, and has been noticed that young people who come from more rural places give more importance to family, they are more religious, and have a more pronounced patriarchal attitudes.
