La ricerca sociolinguistica condotta ai fini della presente tesi ha come obbiettivo principale quello di indagare l’identità e sociale degli studenti nelle Marche. La ricerca si basa su un questionario che ciascuno degli informanti ha affrontato individualmente. I dati raccolti forniscono informazioni sulla competenza linguistica degli informanti e sulle loro strategie comunicative; si cerca, inoltre, di interpretare gli atteggiamenti linguistici degli informanti nei confronti dei dialetti e dell’italiano standard e il ruolo dei pregiudizi e degli stereotipi nel formarli. Infine, si cerca di analizzare il ruolo del dialetto nella costruzione dell’identità linguistica e sociale degli informanti. Si parte dall’ipotesi che il contributo del dialetto, essendo esso lingua della famiglia e degli amici, sia molto importante nella costruzione dell’identità identità linguistica e sociale degli informanti e poiché gli informanti sono prevalentemente studenti di lingue, si presume che anche i loro atteggiamenti nei confronti del dialetto siano positivi. La ricerca ha confermato che, sebbene il dialetto in Italia sia considerato inferiore all’italiano standard, gli informanti continuano ad usarlo e con il suo uso indicano l’appartenenza alle radici, alla famiglia e agli amici, quindi, i loro atteggiamenti linguistici nei confronti del dialetto sono positivi.

The aim of this sociolinguistic research, conducted as a part of the master’s thesis, is to examine the linguistic and social identity of students in the Marche region of central Italy. This research was conducted by the means of a questionnaire, in which each informant participated individually. The collected data provides insight into the participants’ language competence and communication strategies; on the basis of the collected data, an attempt is made to interpret the participants’ language attitudes toward dialects and the standard Italian language, as well as the role of prejudices and stereotypes in their formation. Finally, the research also attempts to analyse the role of a dialect in the construction of the linguistic and social identity of the participants. The thesis is based on the hypothesis that the contribution of a dialect, as the language of family and friends, is significant in the construction of the linguistic and social identity of the participants, and since most of the participants are language students, it is assumed that their language attitudes towards a dialect are positive. The research has shown that, although dialect is considered inferior to the standard Italian, participants continue to use it, that the use of a dialect indicates a sense of belonging to their roots, family and friends, and that their language attitudes towards dialect are positive.
