Except for words of Old Russian, Proto Slavic and Indoeuropean origin, there are many words of English origin in the Russian language. More recently, those anglicisms entered Russian, as well as Croatian, through mass media, television, the Internet and the newspapers. Due to the shipbuilding, engineering and craft Russian came into contact with Dutch and English. Nowadays, we find loanwords in the areas of politics, economics, finance, entrepreneurship, technology, art and sports. We differentiate between indirect and direct contact depending on the fact whether borrowing takes place through intermediaries or through direct contact of speakers. During the loanwords adaptation they go through many changes, from the stage of compromise replica to integration of replica into the language recipient system. On the basis of many examples, it has been established there are three types of transphonemization and transmorphemization: complete, partial and free. On the semantic level, we differentiate between changes in semantic extension, ellipse, metonymy. All in all, Croatian and Russian are genetically close Slavic languages whose similarity also reveals in the way of borrowing.
