Abstract

The Vrčevo - Gorica hillfort is located near Sukošan in Ravni Kotari region. Geostrategically positioned, Vrčevo hillfort developed into important Liburnian center which was inhabited during Prehistoric, Middle and New ages. The hillfort was neglected and little was known until 2012. when the site was subjected to archaeological research. Excavations uncovered a thick archaeological deposit and individual stratigraphic units have been dated byradiocarbon analysis. The results show that the site was continuously inhabited from the Middle Bronze Age until the end of the Late Iron Age, which makes Vrčevo hilfort first known site of continuous human activity from the so - called Protoliburnian to the Liburnian phase. Pottery was never fully processed and the objective of this paper was to determine its typological and chronological developments during Middle and Late Bronze Age, and the Early and Late Iron Age. Pottery analysis showed characteristics that continued from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age as well as the differences between the two periods.
