Abstract (english) The thesis outlines the development of tourism in the town of Nin, from the very beginning up until the current day. Before it covers the history of that development and the current situation, the thesis highlights the turbulent history of the town, starting during the time of the Liburninans, and continues through to the Roman and early Croatian era, Turkish invasion and Venetian conquests up until the present time of the independent Republic of Croatia. It also shows its natural and geographical characteristics, including an interesting location of the town centre on the little island, which also made it isolated from the wars. The characteristics of its climate, which are distinctly Mediterranean and the variety of its flora and fauna, where you can find lot of swamp birds and rare endemic plant life.
Furthermore, the thesis is showing chronological development of tourism from a modest start at the end of the 19th century, which was connected with medicinal mud and the attempts to develop health tourism which unfortunately was never realized. At the begining of the fifties in the 20th century, the economic development of Nin begun when Tilery and Saltern were built. This directly influenced the beginning of the hospitality industry when the first restaurant was opened. One of the most important steps in the touristic development of Nin was the construction of the asphalted road to Zadar in 1969, after which the first infirmary facilities for the treatment with the medicinal mud were built. The additional boost to the tourist industry was the opening of the hotel „Pinija“ and the holiday resort „Punta Skala“ in Petrčane at the start of the seventies, and especially the holiday resort „Zaton“ which was built in 1983, after which the touristic business was almost always in the upward path until the Homeland war in the 1991. In the first years after the war, the area had low touristic business and it's only after the season of 1998 that the tourism had returned in Croatia as well as in Nin. Today Nin has over 125,000 visitors a year that in 2015 spent there over a million nights.
The chapter „Nin's touristic offer“ higlights touristic, accommodation and catering, facilities located in the Nin area and also other touristic resources such as a rich cultural and historical heritage, various events and possibilities of an active tourism and the health tourism of the medicinal mud.
The last chapter shows the possibilities of additional developments which are based on the rich natural resources, local specifics and previous experience in the development of tourism. Along with the consistent expansion of the offer with additional contents such as diving, cyclo and enotourism.
