A healthy, balanced and varied diet is crucial for the mental and physical health of people because it has an important nutritional, caloric and protective role. Fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, water and minerals are essential nutrients that make up most of the tissues and cells in the human body so they should be taken in with proper nutrition. Dietary choices are influenced by a variety of factors, such as sociodemographical, biological, emotional, social, cultural, political, as well as marketing, ethical concerns, environmental factors, and nutritional knowledge. Developed societies have a tendency to adopt diets characterized by a high proportion of cholesterol, fat, protein and sugar and excessive salt intake due to frequent consumption of processed and fast foods, while diets in underdeveloped societies have opposite characteristics. This paper will investigate the impact of various factors on food selection motivations in different countries around the world, the study and systematization of which can serve in the future and today as a basis for improving the eating habits of the population.
