Miroslav Krleža is one of the most respected and most important Croatian writers, a playwright who has left behind a significant opus in which the cycle about the Glembays stands out. In the second half of the 1920s, Krleža began to deal with the fate of the fictional Zagreb civic family Glembay. The cycle about the Glembays consists of 3 plays and 11 prose texts, in fact short stories, fragments and literary portraits. The final paper will present the life and work, as well as the literary and dramatic work of Miroslav Krleža, the entire cycle about Glembays and the dramaMessrs. Glembay, and then explain the development of female characters in Croatian literature, and analyze female characters in the playMessrs. Glembay. An analysis of the female characters will confirm that the character of Baroness Castelli is a type of fatal woman, and opposite her stands the character of sister Angelica, a type of mother. The proletarian Rupert and her unmarried daughter-in-law Fanica Canjeg belong to a lower social class, and as all the characters from the Glembay cycle belong to the upper class, they enter the lives of the Glembays as thematic characters. The proletarian Rupert and her daughter-in-law also end tragically like the other characters in the cycle, given that they are entangled in a network of Glembay crimes and injustices.
