This paper is based on the Erving Goffman's concept of stigma and his theory that every human action is connected with social norms, especially when it comes to the attitude towards people who are „different” and their adaptation in the society. In this way, a person possesses two opposite types of identity. The first one is virtual identity, which is assigned by the society, and the second one is the current or actual, which a person truly has. In this way interconnectedness between macro and micro social levels, which are interdependent, can be clearly seen. From a more radical point of view, every individual lives for executing social norms in order not to be marginalized. Socially determined standards of being pretty in the modern society can be perceived by the Goffman's concept of stigma. The media and the modern industry, together with globalization and other social processes, have inevitably imposed the Western notion of beauty as necessary. A person who does not respect those norms, usually feels inferior, especially when it comes to womankind. Here, the link between macro and micro levels can be seen because social forces exert pressure on an individual and his/her actions and feelings. To sum up, the egalitarianism in society could make progress if educational institutions put more effort in promotion of inclusive values because all the attitudes about diversity are learned in society.
