Abstract (english) The problem of this research was the challenges faced by female students who became mothers during their studies. The aim of the research was to determine the self-assessment of students’ competences for motherhood and their ability to balance their student and maternal obligations. It was important to investigate what problems students face at their university and what kind of support they have. For the purpose of this research, an on-line survey was created in Google Forms, which was conducted anonymously. A total of 89 student-mothers participated from different study years at numerous universities in the Republic of Croatia. The results of the research shows that student do not view pregnancy as premature (83,15%), but many of them (24,72%) consider it an aggravating circumstance. Most partners/fathers of children (89,89%) reacted positively to the news of pregnancy, while 41,75% of teachers reacted either negatively or neutrally to the same news. It turned out that a large number of students (88,64%) consider themselves excellent parent and know well what is bothering their children. Also, a large number of students (71,59%) think parenthood is turning them into better people, which is why they feel fulfilled. It came to light that a lot of students (60,92%) manage to meet the imposed expectations and think that parenting is not a frustrating job. Furthermore, a lot of students (48,86%) think that they have all the necessary skills for motherhood and that they do not envy other in their education. Only 37,50% of students stated that balancing student and maternal obligations is not easy at all, but they generally managed to meet all their university obligations. The students wrote about the problems they have with behaviour of the professors, the organization of classes, practices and exams. They also added problems with babysitting and attending classes. Furthermore, students think that they are not singled out by the professors and that they are treated in the same way as their colleagues. The students consider that faculty could help them with accommodation of their child or with better organization.
