Abstract Humani papilloma virus (HPV) potječe iz porodice Papillomaviridae, rod Papillomavirus (lat. papilla = bradavica; grč. oma = tumor).
Abstract (english) The human papilloma virus (HPV) originates from the family Papillomaviridae, genus Papillomavirus (lat. Papilla = wart; grc. Oma = tumor). Today are known about 200 different types of viruses, 40 of which affect the reproductive system. HPV, as the most common sexually transmitted disease, often passes spontaneously, but after infection it can potentionally form lesions that may precede the development of cancers such as the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis and oropharyngeal cancer. It is very important to inform the population about low-risk and high-risk types of HPV, risk factors, modes of transmission, and general preventive measures, as well as the primary and secondary level of prevention. If the infection occurs and if cervical canceris present, it is important to acquaint the population with different treatment options and methods, in order to improve their health and accomplish the highest possible quality of life. In order to strengthen the population's knowledge about human papillomavirus infection and prevent public health problems, it is necessary to inform them with the basic and main characteristics of the virus, and to show the incidence of HPV so that in the future we can focus on areas with higher infection rates. , and thus make progress in promoting the importance of preventive measures in these areas. Knowledge about the etiopathogenesis of HPV infection has enabled great progress in the primary and secondary level of prevention of precancerous lesions and malignant diseases. Although methods for completely curing this infection have not yet been discovered, preventive vaccines reduce the prevalence rate of HPV infection and related diseases and provide a promising alternative to current therapies
