Cilj ovog istraživanja je ispitati odnose nekih aspekata percepcije bolesti (kognitivne i emocionalne komponente doživljaja bolesti i razumijevanja bolesti), sociodemografskih karakteristika sudionica (dob, obrazovanje), stadija bolesti (rani/uznapredovali stadij), osobina ličnosti sudionica (optimizam-pesimizam), socijalnih čimbenika (socijalna podrška medicinskog osoblja) i zadovoljstva životom žena oboljelih od raka dojke.
Abstract (english) Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the second most common form of cancer in general (after lung cancer), and the incidence of women is increasing both in the world and in Croatia (Pahljina-Reinić, 2004). Despite the growing number of studies examining the quality of life and psychological disorders of patients, the relationships of individual psychosocial factors have not been fully explored. The aim of this research is to examine the relationships of some aspects of disease perception (cognitive and emotional aspects of experience of the disease and understanding of disease), sociodemographic characteristics of participants (age, education), stage and disease (early/advanced stage), personality traits of participants (optimism-pessimism), social factors (social support of medical staff) and life satisfaction of women with breast cancer. The study involved 108 women with breast cancer, average age of 48 years, and data were collected by filling out an online questionnaire. The results of this study indicate a significant difference in cognitive aspects of experience of the disease within women with different stages of the breast cancer. Women diagnosed with cancer at an advanced stage report a higher cognitive experience of the diasese compared to women diagnosed with cancer at earlier stages. No differences were found in life satisfaction, emotional aspects of experience of the disease and understanding of the disease in women with breast cancer with respect to the stage of the disease and the age of the participants. Optimism is associated with positive belief in disease control and treatmant and higher level of life satisfaction in women with breast cancer, while social support of medical staff is associated with better understanding of the disease. Life satisfaction is associated with positive belief in disease control and treatment and with lower emotional experience of disease. Regression analysis found that age was a significant predictor of life satisfaction of women with breast cancer, older women were less satisfied with life, while education level, stage of disease and various aspects of disease perception did not prove to be significant predictors of life satisfaction in women with breast cancer.
