Abstract
The aim of this thesis is the analysis of representations of things that make Great Britain multicultural. Given that in recent years multiculturalism is being seen as a threat to national survival, and that integration of migrants is seen as the right answer to the complex question of cultural difference, it is not surprising, as Sara Ahmed argues, that the focus of many representations is on loyalty to “what has already been established as a national ideal” (142). Lead by arguments of Sara Ahmed, this thesis focuses on her analysis of the film Bend it like Beckham (2002, dir Gurinder Chadha), in which the notion of multiculturalism is regarded as ‘happy’ (138) because it denotes the ideal British society in which different ethnic communities have equal opportunities and living standards. Ahmed shows that liberal notion of multiculturalism is controversial and debatable and that Bend it like Beckham reflects the political struggle over national belonging.

Nadalje, ona tvrdi da Bend it like Beckham reflektira političku borbu oko nacionalnog osjećaja pripadnosti.
