The study aimed to analyze neologisms and occasionalisms found in articles on Russian online magazines and newspapers. The first chapter examines the impact of globalization on the emergence of a large number of neologisms in the language. After that, various theories of neologisms created by Russian linguists are investigated and finally the definition of the term neologism is determined. The third chapter addresses the issue of lexical norm and the fourth chapter describes theories about occasionalisms. Then follows the classification of neologisms according to the type of language units, to the degree of "newness" of linguistic units, according to the type of reality that they mark and by the method of formation. Then (since the hypothesis is made that a good portion of neologisms found will belong to the cathegory of borrowed words) the process of linguistic borrowing and the degrees of loanword adaptation to the recipient language are reviewed. This is followed by a chapter which deals with the main word-formation trends in the language of contemporary Russian media: democratization, expressivization, internationalization and economization. In the central part of the work the analysis of the collected neolexemes loanwords and neolexemes created using formation patterns was carried out. The conclusion is a resume of the analysis.
