Abstract Im Mittelpunkt dieser Diplomarbeit steht der Naturalismus.
Abstract (english) One of the main focuses of this master thesis is naturalism. Naturalism began in the eighties of the 19. century. In the name itself, it is evident that naturalism is closely related to nature. The naturalism aims to describe everything as it is in reality, what means without any palliation. The most important representative of German naturalism is Gerhart Hauptmann. He earned the status with his literary work and with his dedication to art and literature. The main focus of this master degree lies in the analysis of two plays which are written by Gerhart Hauptmann “Und Pippa tanzt!” and “Hanneles Himmelfahrt”. Both plays are very similar and contain naturalistic and non-naturalistic elements. The focus is on the naturalistic elements, but some non-naturalistic elements were also described. Through the analysis of those plays, there was a conclusion that they contain a large number of naturalistic elements, like stage directions and the so-called “Sekundenstil”. It is known that naturalism tries to describe everything realistically and that the naturalistic elements are the instruments that lead to that goal. So in these plays can be seen characters from the lower stalls, everyday speech and dialect, deaths, poverty, aggressiveness, unemployment etc. Among these things have the plays a realistic background, which is with the actress Ida Orloff, Hauptmanns cousin and 13-year-old girl connected. All these characteristics give the plays a naturalistic touch, while fairytale and dream motives give the non-naturalistic touch and with that are the plays pushed a little bit aside from the typical naturalistic plays.
