Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Archaeological material, that we associate with the Roman medicine in the former province of Dalmatia, is relatively rich with findings. In my work I tried to systematize this kind of findings. During the research, I also mentioned the very beginnings of Greek medicine, which are rooted medicine as the Romans knew. They have done an remarkable step in the field of public health services by building spas and cisterns. Furthermore, it is unavoidable to mention the religious aspect , which at that time was of great importance to sick and injured persons. Indigenous Illyrian medicine is mainly based on the superstitious and magical treatment, but they also had the knowledge of medicinal plants. With the arrival of the Roman army they met with the modern methods of treatment , and judging by the findings they adopted them relatively quickly.
