Abstract
Unatoč kratkom životu, zbog čega njegov opus broji tek nekolicinu umjetničkih djela, ostavio je iznimno značajan trag, pokazujući majstorsko razumijevanje slikarskih tehnika, virtuoznost i nadasve individualnost u pristupu temi.

Parallel abstract (English)
This paper deals with life and work of the painter Giorgione who worked in Venice at the end of 15th and beginning of the 16th century. Despite his short life, which is why his catalog has only few undoubtely attributed paintings, he left a significant mark, and his paintings show a masterful understanding of painting techniques, virtuosity and above all individuality in dealing with the topic. Only several and scant informations from Giorgione's contemporary documents prevent any detailed archival research of his life path and artistic development, but his poetics speaks for themselves. This paper is therefore based on the presentation of Giorgione's paintings which, due to the lack of biographical information, are here to present and interpret his style. Although not big, Giorgione's catalog is very problematic in many aspects and has induced numerous debates, from his time until today. That is why some scholars attribute a number of paintings to Giorgione, while in other publications they are claimed to be work of another artist. This paper considers only those paintings that all consulted art historians undoubtely attribute to Giorgione. Besides the unknown details of his life and the unresolved catalog due to atrist's practice of not signing the paintings, a considerable topic of art historian's researches is related to the iconography and semantic layers in his paintings that can always be interpreted in several different ways, but some of the content is - despite numerous interpretations - still an enigma. Importance of Giorgione as an artist is testified by many of his followers and artists who will be inspired by his work centuries later, as well as a large amount of text written on the subject of Giorgione, a part of which will be presented and reinterpreted in this paper.
