Abstract
This paper analyses the phonetic and phonological features of the artificially created Dothraki, language of the eponymous nomadic tribe from the world-renowned show Game of Thrones, and those of a naturally-formed English language with the aim of reviewing the scope of the existent natural-artificial language dichotomy. The first chapter of the thesis establishes the fundamental classification of constructed languages according to their purpose and authenticity. Furthermore, throughout the subsequent three chapters an individual and comparative analysis of orthography, consonant and vowel inventory, phonological changes and prosody as well as the stress system of both Dothraki and English is executed.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj rad analizira fonetsko-fonološke značajke umjetno konstruiranog jezika dothraki, jezika istoimenog nomadskog plemena iz planetarno popularne serije Igra prijestolja, te prirodno nastalog engleskog jezika, s ciljem preispitivanja obuhvata dihotomije između prirodnih i umjetnih jezika. Prvo poglavlje rada iznosi osnovnu klasifikaciju umjetnih jezika prema namjeni i izvornosti materijala. Nadalje, kroz naredna tri poglavlja vrši se pojedinačna, te komparativna analiza ortografije, inventara suglasnika i samoglasnika, fonoloških promjena, te same prozodije, kao i naglasnog sistema, dothrakija i engleskog jezika.
