Abstract (english) | In this paper the results of the survey research about the features of Network Generation with students were shown, as well as the implications of those features on studying, purpose and frequency of using digital technology (computers, Internet, smartphone, social networks) in their free time and during lessons. In the first part of the paper the characteristics of the Network Generation were presented, including the specific use of technology, and the need for freedom, speed, cooperation, interactivity, instant actions as well as tendency for multitasking. In addition, altered ways of searching, using, evaluating information were mentioned, which is directly related to thinking, memory and learning. The results of various research, from both world and Croatia, were listed. The following part included analysis and interpretation of the results of the research conducted in Zadar in three elementary schools and three high schools. The results showed that young people in Croatia possessed characteristics of Network Generation, that is, they got in touch with technology at an early age, they were constantly connected to the Internet and kept in touch with their friends, they were prone to multitasking and were aware of the fact that the presence of technology interrupted their concentration, they simply scanned through the text and were satisfied with every result they had found, rarely did they quote authors and other sources, they used Wikipedia and copy/paste method. According to the research, the majority of students would like to use previously mentioned digital technologies in the classroom, and, as research showed, they mostly used computers and the Internet for the purpose of presenting content. The analysis of students’ suggestions also showed that students would like to use tablets instead of textbooks, they would like to search information for the purpose of the lesson both by themselves and with their teachers, and they would like educational games and quizzes to be included more in the lesson. |
