Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Misogynist communication on the Internet has attracted increasing attention. A discourse analysis was conducted on three antifeminist movements with a significant online presence: the men's rights movement, the pick-up artist community, and the GamerGate movement. Using the methods of the sociology of knowledge approach to discourse (SKAD), a corpus of texts produced by those three movements was analysed in detail. The results of the discursive analysis show that there are three related but not identical discourses, representing three different strategies of adaptation and resistance to a postfeminist social context. The discourses of the aforementioned movements are based on rigid patriarchal concepts of masculinity and misogynist stereotypes about women, and represent an ideology of resentment that keeps men trapped in harmful and self-defeating patterns of thought and action.
