Abstract (english) The aim of this study was to assess the relationships of the Need for Drama (NFD) with the dark triad personality traits and self-esteem. NFD is a relatively new construct. It is a personality trait that implies a number of maladaptive attributes and behavioral patterns. Individuals with drama-prone personalities have a marked tendency to manipulate other people`s behavior and feelings. Furthermore, they often share opinions without considering the situation factors and the potentially negative consequences that could effect others. Such people also frequently perceive themselves as victims in ordinary and everyday situations. Dark-triad of the personality traits is compound by three traits: Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy. Such individuals are often manipulative, cold, lack empathy, form an unrealistic image of self. Self-esteem is a positive or negative self-evaluation. We perceive others and work within our community through the feeling of self-value. Participants in the study were 166 students (55 males and 111 females) at the University of Zadar, aged between 18 and 30 years (M=20.8). The students from different university departments were included: Department of Tourism and Communication Sciences, Department of Geography, Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Department of Psychology and Department of Information Sciences. The instruments used in this study include the Need for Drama Scale, the Short Dark Triad Scale, and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. The results indicate a positive relationship of the NFD, including it's three subdimensions, with the three Dark Tryad personality traits, which supports the study hypothesis. However, the expected negative association of the NFD with self-esteem was found to pertain primarily to the persistent perceived victimhood as a NFD component. No significant difference in drama-prone personality traits was observed between male and female participants in this study.
