Abstract

Nečven fortress is one of the few military fortresses by the Krka canyon, built by Nelipić noble family at the beginning of the Late Middle Ages. It was under the rule of Nelipić family by the beginning of 15th century and in 1522 it was conquered by the Ottomans. After the retrieve of Ottomans from Dalmatia at the end of 17th century, the fortress was abandoned and demolished. Nečven is now part of the Krka National Park, and since 2011 archaeological excavations and conservation work have been carried out. Glazed pottery analyzed in this paper represents a selection of the pottery fragments discovered in excavations on Nečven fortress in period from 2011 - 2014. The presence of various types is determined: Italian glazed ware (invetriata, slipware, maiolica), quartz ware of Oriental production and German stoneware. This material was dated from 15th to 19th century and demonstrates the culture of living on Nečven fortress throughout the Early Modern Era.
