Abstract U radu su obrađeni antički kamenolomi s područja salonitanskog agera, zabilježeni u
unutarnji i vanjski transport.
Abstract (english) Ancient quarries from the region of Salona ager, recorded in Trogir, Klis and on the
islands of Brač, Hvar and Vis have been worked on in this paper. The very beginnings of stone
carving in ancient period at this location most likely date from the times of Greek colonization,
but with the arrival of Romans on those territories the exploatation of stone had intensified, and
a completely new techniqe called „pašarin“ was introduced. Authors who also published papers
on ancient quarries from the region of Salona ager have also been mentioned. Techniques of
stone block extraction have also been mentioned: the technique of open digging, which can be
divided on extraction of plately or architectural stone, and the technique of gallery digging,
recorded only in Trogir. Alongside these techniques stonemasonry tools have been mentioned
as well: the tools that were used with the technique of open digging at the extraction od plately
stone were leverage, hammer, and iron and wooden wedge, and with the technique of open
digging massive hammer – „dvošilj“ (two-pointed). The transfer of stone blocks from the
quarry to the desired location can be divided on internal and external transport. Stonemasonry
workshops have also been mentioned: in Salona (officina lapidaria), and on the island of Brač,
and an inscription from Salona that mentiones the association of stonemasons (collegium
lapidariorum). Epigraphic monuments and reliefs dedicated to the ancient pagan god Hercules,
whose cult is associated with stonecutter craft, were found in Salona, in the Trogir area, and
mostly on the island of Brač, also described in this paper. Some of them also witness that the
quarries were the property of the emperor, and that the Roman army had a significant role in
supervising the work being done in the quarries and during the construction of public buildings.
