The dominance of Marvel’s superhero movies is expanding together with the popularity of the iconic superhero characters depicted in those movies. Many children regard superheroes as their role models, wishing they could be just like them. Consequently, the representation of such characters is important, as it shapes the image of a man and a woman within the audience through the portrayed characters. Female superhero characters are often considered to be created for men’s appreciation; they are depicted as having attractive accentuated female physical attributes and fulfill the traditional roles connected to the female gender. Superiority of men, sexual objectification of women, stereotypical personality traits and roles assigned to women is Marvel Comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe are just some occurrences which are analysed within this paper through the character of the Black Widow and its portrayal in The Avengers (2010) and the Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s adaptations manifest stereotypical views on women’s personality traits within the society which is portrayed in the movies. However, Black Widow acknowledges and uses those interpretations in her advantage, demonstrating a stronger, independent personality. Additionally, sexual objectification of women is recognized in the tight clothing and camera angles posed on the feminine attributes of the character of Black Widow.
