Abstract
In this final paper, the concepts of idioms, Construction Grammar, construction and constructional idiom have been presented and supported by various examples. Firstly, idioms are sequences of words whose meaning cannot be predicted from the meaning of its semantic constituents. Secondly, Construction Grammar is a grammatical framework which explores language and grammatical knowledge in forms of constructions. Constructions are pairings of form and semantic or discourse function present at all levels of grammatical analysis. Furthermore, constructional idioms are a particular type of construction with a partially of fully non-compositional meaning in which not all terminal element are fixed. Examples of constructional idioms, the let alone case, the way construction and the ditransitive construction confirmed the necessity for the Construction Grammar framework in the English language.
Abstract (croatian)
U ovom završnom radu objašnjeni su i raznim primjerima potkrijepljeni koncepti idioma, konstrukcijske gramatike, konstrucije i konstrukcijskog idioma. Idiomi su jedinstvene jezične fraze čije se kompletno značenje ne može otkriti na temelju značenja pojedinih sastavnica određenog idioma. Konstrukcijska gramatika gramatički je pravac koji proučava jezik i gramatiku koristeći konstrukcije. Konstrukcije su spojevi oblika i sematičke ili diskurzivne funkcije prisutne na svakoj razini gramatičke analize. Nadalje, konstrukcijski idiomi posebna su vrsta konstrukcije čije je značenje iznimno teško odrediti na temelju sastavnih dijelova te u kojoj pojedini elementi nisu fiksno određeni. Primjeri let alone, way i ditransitive konstrukcije potvrdili su potrebu za konstrukcijskom gramatikom u engleskom jeziku.
