Među ispitanim dobnim skupinama razlike postoje pri odabiru ručka u prvom razredu (p=0,01), učestalosti konzumacije slatkiša u četvrtom razredu (p=0,02) i načinu pripreme hrane u prvom razredu (p=0,01).
Abstract (english) The aim of this paper was to examine dietary habits and awareness of nutrition of grammar school students and to determine the meaningful difference in the dietary habits considering age and gender. The study was conducted using students between first and fourth grade of the elementary school Zadarski otoci in Zadar. Eighty-nine female and male students participated in the study. An anonymous survey, consisting of nineteen questions, was used in the study. The questions refer to the dietary habits of students, both at home and in school, and their knowledge of proper nutrition.
All the questions in the survey were formulated to accommodate the age of the students. The height and weight of each of the students was measured as well. The results of the study showed that most of the students surveyed (83,15%) are used to eating breakfast before going to school, while only 16.85% answered negatively when asked if they ate breakfast before going to school. The survey showed that most students ate cereals (35%) and bread products (26,91%) for breakfast and most often drank milk (64,05%). For lunch, vegetable (24,72%) and poultry (20,23%) were consumed most frequently. More than half of the children surveyed ate sandwiches for dinner. For school lunch, they mostly ate sandwiches (30,34%) and bread products (24,72%). Most of the students surveyed answered to having five meals per day, which is in accord with recommendations. Statistically, significant differences between boys and girls have been confirmed only when it comes to the consumption of nuts (p=0,02) and the choice of favorite meal (p=0,04). Among the surveyed age groups, difference occurs with the choice of lunch in first grade (p=0,01), the frequency of sugar consumption in fourth grade (p=0,02) and the waysfood is prepared in first grade (p=0,01). The surveyed awareness about nutrition of grammar school students indicates their good overall knowledge about nutrition. Educating children about proper nutrition and influencing their dietary habits is necessary from an early age.
