Abstract

Business process intelligence, a part of business intelligence, is gaining importance in the modern business firms. The rapid development of technology has brought many tools of process intelligence on the market as business intelligence alone is not enough anymore. Considering that business process intelligence extends the capabilities of BI, it’s up to companies to examine the profitability of investment in BPI and choose the right tools that will bring maximum benefits at minimum cost. The text presents the terms of business intelligence, business process management and business processes along with their components and by linking them together represents the role of the business process intelligence, advantages of such investment, as well as the challenges encountered. A case study of the German insurance company is presented in the discussion as an example of successful implementation of business process intelligence.
