Abstract
This final paper sets out to analyze selected poems from the 1990 poetry collection “Pharaoh’s Daughter” by contemporary Irish female poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill. The aim of the paper is to explore how Ní Dhomhnaill’s poetry challenges traditional gender stereotypes in Irish society and male-dominated poetry and demonstrate how the author redefines and portrays women’s experience. Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill writes about Irish womanhood, female experience, but also about topics which were long considered taboo, thus giving voice to Irish women who were silent and silenced in both Irish history and literature. The paper analyses poems in which she uses a male muse whom her poetic speaker admires, but also poems in which the speakers are strong Gaelic goddesses. The paper argues that by subverting the imagery of Irish woman and womanhood in traditional Irish poetry, Ní Dhomhnaill positions herself as the one of the most significant poets in contemporary Ireland.

Završni rad analizira odabrane pjesme iz zbirke poezije „Pharaoh's Daughter“, koju je napisala suvremena irska pjesnikinja Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill 1990. godine. Cilj rada je istražiti na koji način poezija Ní Dhomhnaill izaziva tradicionalne spolne stereotipe u irskom društvu i muškodominiranu poeziju te demonstrirati kako pjesnikinja redefinira i prikazuje žensko iskustvo. Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill piše o Irskoj ženstvenosti, ženskom iskustvu, ali i o temama koje su predugo vremena bile smatrane tabu te na taj način daje glas irskim ženama koje su šutjele i bile ušutkane u irskoj povijesti i književnosti. Analiziraju se pjesme u kojima ona prikazuje mušku muzu kojoj se njezin ženski lirski subjekt divi, ali i pjesme u kojima su subjekti snažne galske božice. Rad tvrdi da narušavajući prikaz irskih žena i ženstvenosti u tradicionalnoj irskoj poeziji, Ní Dhomhnaill se pozicionira kao jedna od najznačajnijih pjesnikinja u suvremenoj Irskoj.
