Abstract
This paper deals with aspects of a liquid identity in the selected novels of Alan Warner Morvern Callar (1995) and The Sopranos (1998). Since both novels were written at the end of the 20th century, the analysis will focus on changes concerning identity formation. Liquid identity and liquid modernity are concepts that theoretician Zygmunt Bauman uses in order to portray the changes that have recently happened trying to put them in contrast with the previous period characterized by solidity. Therefore, this works relies primarily on theoretical assumptions of Zygmunt Bauman, Kathryn Woodward, Steve Padley and Anthony Giddens. This paper attempts to demonstrate the characteristics of an identity created in the times of liquid modernity. In order to present the aspects of liquid identity in the analysis, we will be focused on the main protagonists of the novels – Morvern Callar and the Soprano girls.

Ovaj rad bavi se aspektima tekućeg identiteta u romanima Alana Warnera Morvern Callar i Soprani. Djela pripadaju drugoj polovici 20.stoljeća koja je naročito pogodna za analizu s obzirom na brojne promjene koje su zahvatile skoro sve sfere društva, pa tako i domenu stvaranja identiteta. Tekući identitet i tekuća modernost koncepti su koje koje teoretičar Zygmunt Bauman koristi kako bi prikazao promjene koje su se dogodile u ovom razdoblju stavljajući ih u kontrast s ranijim dobom kojeg je odlikovala stabilnost. Može se reći kako se rad oslanja na teoretske pretpostavke Zygmunta Baumana, Kathryn Woodward, Steve Padleya i Anthony Giddensa. Cilj ovog rada je prikazati karakteristike identiteta nastalog u razdoblju tekuće modernosti. Kako bismo pokazali aspekte tekućeg identiteta u analizi ćemo se usredotočiti na glavne likove romana – Morvern Callar i Soprane.
