Abstract
This bachelor thesis focuses on code-switching that occurs between English and Spanish in two comedy television series. In the first part, the theoretical background related to code-switching is presented, and it includes reference to types of code-switching, as well as reasons for switching codes. It is important to recognize the differences between codeswitching and other linguistic phenomena related to it, such as diglossia and borrowing. What follows is an overview of previous research related to the topic. The following, and the most important part of the paper presents the results of the analysis where identified instances of code-switching are explained. The analysed examples reveal that code-switching as presented in the media shows overlapping with the switching presented in everyday life.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj se završni rad bavi prebacivanjem kodova između engleskog i španjolskog u dvjema humorističnim serijama. U prvome je dijelu predstavljena teorijska pozadina vezana za prebacivanjem kodova, koja uključuje osvrt na vrste prebacivanja kodova, kao i razloge za takva prebacivanja. Bitno je prepoznati razlike između prebacivanja kodova i ostalih povezanih lingvističkih pojavnosti, poput diglosije i posuđivanja. Slijedi pregled prethodnih istraživanja povezanih s temom. Idući, ujedno i najbitniji dio rada predstavlja rezultate analize gdje su objašnjeni identificirani primjeri prebacivanja kodova. Analizirani primjeri otkrivaju da se prebacivanja kodova koja pronalazimo u medijima preklapaju s prebacivanjima koja se javljaju u svakodnevnom životu.
