Abstract
This paper focuses on the life of right-wing skinhead Derek Vinyard in the movie American History X. Concerning the fact that he is under the influence of various sociological factors, Derek forms a group of skinheads who serve as a substitute family with whom he shares similar racist viewpoints. The aim of the paper is to examine both internal and external factors which influence his way of thinking by using various theories, some of which are Cohen's Status Frustration Theory and Ohlin's Theory of Differential Opportunities, the point of which is the notion of delinquency. The goal of the diploma paper is to analyze the skinhead by relying mostly on sociological perspective, but also taking psychological facts into account. What is more, various real-life instances of skinhead movements and its relation to historical happenings are also to be taken into consideration.
Abstract (croatian)
U fokus ovoga rada stavljen je život desno orijentiranog skinheada Dereka Vinyarda u filmu Generacija X. Budući da je pod utjecajem raznih socioloških faktora, Derek osnuje grupu skinheadsa koju smatra zamjenskom obitelji s kojom dijeli slična rasistička uvjerenja. Cilj je rada istražiti unutrašnje i vanjske čimbenike koji utječu na njegov način razmišljanja i ponašanja koristeći razne teorije kao što su Cohenova Teorija statusne frustracije i Ohlinova Teorija različitih sustava mogućnosti. Pojam delinkvencije središna je točka ovog diplomskog rada. Cilj je ovog rada analizirati skinheada oslanjajući se uglavnom na sociološku, ali uzimajući pritom u obzir i psihološku perspektivu. Štoviše, razmatrat će se autentični primjeri skinhead pokreta i njihova povezanost s ostalim povijesnim događanjima.
