Abstract
As a writer in turbulent 30's of the 20th century, in his novels Brighton Rock and The Power and the Glory, Graham Greene tackles theburning issues of thepostwar society. Moreover, as a former atheist and new Catholic, in his novels he deals with the Christian doctrine and concepts of sin, suffering, and love. The aim of this paper is to analyse the historical background which had an impact on Greene, as well as describe Greene’s intellection of Catholicism, including his criticism of the Catholic Church.
Abstract (croatian)
Kao pisac u turbulentnim 30-ima dvadesetog stoljeća, Graham Greene je svojim romanima, Brighton Rock i The Power and the Glory, nastojao ukazati na postojeće problem poslijeratnog društva. Također, kao bivši ateist i novopečeni katolik, u svojim je romanima iznosio i analizirao temeljne kršćanske ideje, poput grijeha, patnje i ljubavi. Cilj ovog rada jest analizirati povijesne okolnosti koje su utjecale na Greenea i njegovo stvaralaštvo, kao i opisati Greeneovo poimanje katolicizma, uključujući i njegove kritike upućene Katoličkoj Crkvi.
